Digitising Social Care

For our people – designed and developed with our people

Digitising Social Care is a national programme that’s all about helping adult social care providers get started or go further on their journey into digital ways of working.

Digital Social Care Records have been recommended, by the Department of Health & Social Care and the Care Quality Commission, for use by all adult social care providers.

NHS England funding has been made available to support providers with implementation. Locally, these funds are being coordinated by Digital Notts, the digital transformation team for the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICB.

The priorities for Digitising Social Care in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are:

  • the increased uptake of Digital Social Care Records across the local care sector,
  • the wider use of sensor-based falls prevention and detection technology


The benefits of implementing a Digital Social Care Records include:

  • Reducing administration tasks enabling more time with the people being supported. 
  • Quicker access to people’s information and improved record keeping.
  • Significant business cost savings on printing and paper

The benefits of implementing sensor-based falls prevention and detection technology include:

  • Provides easy to access data dashboards so that care providers, health professionals, and family members can understand a person’s pattern of movement and behaviour when they are on their own
  •  Allows on site staff members to quickly respond to a resident when they need help without the need for staff members to disturb the resident’s regular sleep pattern by going into the room to check up on them


Since July 2023, Digital Notts has supported 180 adult social care providers across the City and County to move from paper-based support plans to a Digital Social Care Record or to introduce sensor-based falls prevention and detection technology.

By quickly studying their movement data, we could accurately confirm to the paramedic that the fall had occurred within the last 20 minutes. Due to this, and following the paramedic’s checks, they were happy for the person to remain at home, rather than incur an inconvenient and high-risk visit to Kingsmill A&E.’
